Rubin Pleaded Guilty

If you follow the online gambling industry then you have heard of the great poker indictment than occurred last April. The three online poker companies involved, Absolute Poker, PokerStars, and Full Tilt Poker, were all seized by the government for millions of dollars in illegal gambling earnings.

The reason it is in the news now is because the trial for Ira Rubin was just held a few days ago where Rubin pleaded guilty to one count of breaking US law against internet gambling and one count each of conspiracy to commit bank and wire fraud, and also one count of participating in a money laundering conspiracy. In addition to pleading guilty on all counts he also admitted to processing payments for the various poker companies while deceiving US banks into transferring proceeds to companies that didn’t even exist.

Although this scandal is unfortunate, it could have been avoided. It is time for online gambling laws to be adjusted. The online gambling industry is about the only industry that is vying for Government regulation. There is also several billions of dollars in tax money that could be made with tax on online poker and other games.
